You have some pretty nice auctions going, good luck with them! I hope you don't mind my comments, I try to throw out ideas to help people get more bids. I want you to get LOTS of credits to spend on beads LOL!

AS USUAL, YOUR AUCTIONS ROCK!!! I had alot of my auctions end in the last coupla days {& I got my wings too!} so I have points to play with this time around.

Oh, very cool! It's great to have your wings, you get your credits immediately when your auctions end. I just looked at your auctions ... you might want to offer free shipping on smaller items. I know it's expensive, but you get it back when you bid on free shipping items, so I think it's a good strategy for accumulating credits. You really do get a lot more bids with free shipping. I have some larger things to list in the future that will cost at least $5 to ship, and I'm thinking of offering reduced shipping ... buyer pays only $3 but I will ship Priority, which costs $5. I don't know how well that would work, but I might try it.

I am amazed at how the credits just seem to multiply all by themselves!! As for the shipping costs, I have been trying out a buyer splits the cost thing on the more expensive to ship items.....so far it seem to be working out ok

That's good. I've come to the conclusion that the free shipping is a wash. I spend it to ship, but most things I am winning are shipped free to me as well. For larger items, it's unrealistic to expect free shipping but I think it really encourages bidders to offer free shipping on small stuff like jewelry. Did you check out my coin auctions ... started listing them tonight. What a LOT of WORK those are! I spend the entire day researching them, and at least a day last week just sorting the darned things and trying to figure out where they came from!

What do you know about paying for & printing the label online- like thru PayPal or USPS??? Good thing or not??? Wouldn't I need a scale of some sort???
Feb 13th, 2010 at 8:50:54 PM PST by
Original
Absolutely the BEST way to go. You can buy small scales at office-supply stores, and sometimes you can pick them up at thrift shops. I have a 50 pound scale, which costs about $50, but the smaller scales don't cost as much. If you can fit the item into a flat-rate box, it makes it easy but usually it's cheaper to pay for postage by the pound. You can get FREE Priority and Flat Rate boxes from the post office ... order them online at usps.com and they will be delivered to you. But using Paypal to print the postage is so easy ... someone sends you money, you log into paypal and pay for the shipping with that money, print the label, tape it to the box and give it to your postman. You don't even have to go to the post office! Plus, you can print a packing slip for the buyer, which is always nice, and the buyer will get the tracking info (be sure to include their e-mail in the appropriate box, but I think Paypal does that for you). You can do the same thing buying your labels via usps.com, but Paypal really does make it easy. Once you've done it a few times it's a piece of cake!

No smoke, I have cats but I don't let them play with the beads, which are stored in closed containers. Don't think it will be a problem for allergies (unless you are allergic to really beautiful beads LOL).

All my auctions are wysiwyg (what you see is what you get). I will be away tonight and tomorrow, returning Saturday evening. I can probably get online to answer questions at some point, but won't be able to respond to comments as quickly as usual.

Funny story ... I ordered some more of those glass animal beads everyone loves from a guy on ebay. Turns out he's getting out of the biz so he shipped me a 17-pound box of many kinds of beads! They are wonderful, but I can't use that many beads in 10 lifetimes. So, starting in another week or so I will be offering LARGE lots of these beads, BIG variety including pink-ribbon (breast cancer) beads, millefiore and other glass, coin-shaped, all sorts of variety. GET SOME AUCTIONS going to build up some credits, you do NOT want to miss these!

OMG I just started looking at them. Each little bag is taped to the max and some are taped together in bunches ... hundreds (possibly thousands) of little bags. It's completely overwhelming! I'm going away this afternoon but plan to try to start sorting them on Sunday. I need some staff to help with this ... hiring, anyone interested? *laughing and crying at the same time*

Congrats on your coin holders and baggies auctions! I was bidding but I really need like 1,000 of those baggies, think I"m gonna have to go hunting on ebay.

I don't have many more supplies for jewelry, a few more findings like clamshell bead caps and headpins, but I'll need most of what I have when I get back to making jewelry, so I won't be listing those here. Might be a good thing for someone else to get into ... buy large lots of beading supplies and sell them in lots on Listia. All the people buying my beads WILL need stuff to make jewelry with!
