Description
The listing, Used 6c Airmail "The Eagle" stamp has ended.
Issued on May 14, 1938, this stamp was part of National Airmail Week, a promotion trying to get everyone to air mail a letter. At that time airmail was still new to many and cost a little more. Over 16 million letters were sent by airmail that week, a huge accomplishment during the Great Depression. Of the more than 1700 special flights taken on May 19, 1938, 43 of them were piloted by women and the first black man to pilot an airmail plane, Grover C. Nash. Scott C23
