A very old coin from a shipwreck. I am not sure what metal it is made from if that is what you wanted to know. Sorry.

my only concern is that the coin was cleaned. It is shiny as if it was just minted and the ship went down 200 years ago... was in the ocean for who knows how long. and not a speck of rust.

It does seem that it was, there is some dirt(?) on it, but not as much as you would expect.

that coin had to have been cleaned if it was in a saline environment for even a week it would have formed green oxidation and. the ship sank in 1809 and was not brought up until 1984. 175 years in the ocean with that salt and those coins would not be shiny. heres a site dedicated to the shipwreck and this link shows pictures of the coins on the bottom

With that neat picture skask provided, it appears there were other coins on the ship. The ones the diver is looking at are waaay to big to be this coin. Then there are the smaller coins a few feet back. Regardless, what a neat item.

Thank you. I was indeed nice of skask to find more info on this item for us all. I found it very interesting as I have had the piece for over 10 years without really knowing what it was. That is why I wanted them to go to collectors who will really appreciate them.
