The listing, ribbed antique jadeite salt and pepper shakers has ended.
these are just marvelous! they measure in at about three and a qurter inch tall. the lids are banged up but still functional. these came to us from a basement of an old cafe in idaho, that has been closed for years, the building, the cafe was in was part of an old hotel which was converted into offices, and later multi uses. i know the owner of the building personally, and we were talking one day, and he mentioend there was a bunch of stuff from the cafe still in the basement. i just recently took a trip back there, and i got these, and some others that are taller. these literally have not been touched in probably fifty or more years. these were grease covered and totally black soot covered from the old nasty furnace, and so gross! we soaked these in ammonia, and water and ran them through the dishwasher, and like the others i think a person could take some brasso and really make these look better than what they do now. we picked all the broken and chipped ones out, so you are getting the cream of the crop, with the exception that lids are not in the best of shape, but fit well, overall. one of the ladies who looked at these that works as a intake person at a local high end auction house mentioned that because of the heavily swirling, the could be possibly akro agate (sp? not sure who or what?) there are some dings, on the metal, which looks to be wearing kind of thin. it is like steel over brass, or something like copper or bronze, not sure. we did test for silver content, but there is none. there are some tiny flea bites on the rims on the inside, but no big deal, and totally check out the swirls in the glass each is different and appear to be crudely made. if you like jadeite stuff like i do, you will love these.
