Simple, just plug the emitter in to the device you want to listen to turn on the headphones (receiver) reset it and sit back and relax and listen to your music.

Is this not new? what kind of condition is it in? you said "Only used once to check if everything works." why would you need to check if everything worked unless you got it from some place where you might think it would not work.
