The listing, 1950s Virgin Islands Postcard with 4c Lincoln Stamp has ended.
This must be a really collectible card if the $12.95 listing currently on ebay is any indication. Plus there is a nice Lincoln stamp and a cancellation date of Sep 16 1955 from Charlotte Amalie to Richmond Hill, NYC. The card is part of my childhood collection and was given to me by my aunt Evelyn, the recipient on the card.
I haven't been able to identify the sender, but I love what she wrote: "Heaven could be like this, but it can wait. I'll take the Virgin Islands." People used to put stamps upside down to say "I love you," but I don't know if that is the case here.
Back of card text reads: "Floral Way" -- one of the colorful streets in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, USA. Pub. by Rahola Photo Supply, Santuree, Puerto Rico. Dormand Postcard, Riverhead, Long Island and 141 E. 45th St., N.Y.
Card shows slight wear but is in good shape all in all for its age. Please study these scans and let me know if you have any questions before you bid. FYI - the postcard is complete, it's the way I put it in the scanner that left one side digitally trimmed by accident.
Thanks for looking!
