I should. It might be a little roomy, but I think it'll fit. Today's sizes are bigger than 1970's sizes. Back then sizes were based more on a coralation of measurements and ave. size amoung the masses. Now it's feels like the different companies have their own standards for sizes. Usually stuff made in the Asian countries such as China or Taiwan is cut smaller because the people there are smaller. My experience is clothes made in Mexico are more like the US sizes because they tend to be rounder like us, although some are shorter.
I am size 18 so why does it look too narrow for me? Is it more like size 14 of today because it is vintage? Very pretty and wan to get it but afraid it won't fit?
I agree w you that it does look small for an 18. I am going by the size tag. What you got to keep in mind is that the sizes changes greatly sometime in the 80's. I can remember my mother talking about it. People were smaller 40 years ago when this dress was made. It's true, a sad fact but true. Have you ever gone to some one's house that was built in the late 1800's or even civil war era and noticed the doorways, hallways, and ceilings being narrower, lower,or generally smaller? IDK why we're getting bigger as people other than the evolution of mankind in general or the mass production of quick cheap fatty foods. I think it's all a combination of both.
I go by measurements because some one may be heavier but hide it well. Someone might be smaller up top, but have larger hips and buttocks. I myself am very tall and a size 20-22 W. Some things fit me and some don't. For ex. I am VERY busty and most things don't fit me up top even if the waist does, plus I like to say that my butt gets caught on things. ( Very large bottom) So I just go by measurements for more accurate sizing.
