And of all places...I moved Up North, frozen tundra, Green Bay Packers, ice fishing in Winter, cheese curds, Indian Casinos! I lived in Clay Hill for about a year, back off Bob White on Linda Ln. I recall neighbors that had a horse that would get loose and roam the woods around there, I'd see and hear them crashing around trying to catch it. I didn't really know anyone out there, since people tended to stay to themselves. I do recall that when I was gone a few days, and left sheets on the line...I had to go hunt My sheets down to get them back at a neighbor's house. I also recall Bob White was the worst road to drive on after a rain storm, 'cause people would become stuck in the muck!

What You've listed on Your auction is really nice, it's crafted with the style of stone overlaid on the silver. I recognized that, from having a few similar pieces, Myself. Another thing I learned that in bead work, sometimes a person might leave imperfections on purpose (the person making it knows though someone else might not spot it)...an Oneida friend told Me this back in 2005: "It's a reminder of Our imperfections as people, and that there is only One who is perfect." She was referring being humble, and I've not forgotten this 5 years later. :)

Yes-

Ojibwe and Chippewa are the same. When Non-Native settlers (invaders) began coming in, it sounded like "Chippewa" to them as they couldn't pronounce it right. "Anishinaabe" also refers to Ojibwe Peoples.

*
The Ojibwe nation is the largest First Nations group north of Mexico, concentrated mainly in the upper Midwest states of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, and North Dakota.

**
Ojibwe, Ojibwa, Ojibway and Chippewa are all anglicized terms given to the group of indigenous Indians who live in the northern U.S. and southern Canada. The native name for these people is Anishinaabe, which, according the Concise Dictionary of Minnesota Ojibwe [University of Minnesota Press, 1995], means “human” and “Indian.” More specifically, the term Ojibwe is the native term for an Ojibwe Indian.

***
Dr. Anton Treuer, Assistant Professor of Ojibwe at Bemidji State University in Minnesota, said (in a 2009 email interview) that the term Chippewa is a mispronunciation of the native term Ojibwe. To use the term Chippewa is not, in Dr. Treuer’s estimation, “egregiously offensive, just not exactly right." As he explains, “the U.S. government used to use Chippewa exclusively in official correspondence and policy, but that has now changed as the result of native advocacy.”

Listia doesn't post HTML, so the URL should be helpful, then. When You mentioned Canadian Ojibwe, do You know anything about Canada's treatment of Natives and the residential schools? Canada issued a formal apology to Indigenousness Peoples, whereas the United States never has. Nov 1st, 2010 at 9:50:25 AM CDT by Kelle

I live on the Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe reservation, near Hayward, Wisconsin. These signs are posted at all the Reservation boundaries. My brother is a tribal member though We're not related by blood or the same Mother.

Lac Courte Oreilles is also known for the annual Honor The Earth Powwow, held each July. It's said to be one of the largest traditional powwows in the United States. I attended HTE 2010, to meet up and visit with My girlfriends that lived hours away from here, since the powwow is a good way to see old friends from afar. :)

Here's a video link to HTE 2010:
