Sorry Kim! I had been awake why to long when I came across this.. Even accidentally hit a GIN button for why more than I would of paid for some bead caps! CRAP!! lol 8) have a great day my Listia friend
Just like any gemstone, there are different grades of stones - all the way from emeralds to sapphires to rubies & of course diamonds - all gemstones are available in different grades. Did you know that the Amethysts with the white lines in them were a better Designer grade than the clear see-thru ones? The same goes for the Aquamarine. These have great color (a plus) but are not translucent (a minus). Also Aquamarines from different mines are different colors ranging from green to baby blue. These particular Aquamarines are a traditional bluish-green color (the Brazilian ones I had earlier this year were Gorgoeous, but solid & nearly blue and were considered a B- grade). These are solid colored, but without flaws, and not translucent, however, so they are a B- grade as well. If you have more questions, feel free to ask. Kim
I did not know that about amethyst. Good to know. I really don't pay much attention to what 'grade' a stone is. I think all grades can be quite beautiful. I work with semi precious stone A LOT and never have I run across opaque aquamarine. I just did a search of B grade aquamarine and they were still all translucent. I did know that they vary in color, but I really think you have made a mistake in the type of stone. Here is one of the sites I checked.
I have seen a stone that looked just like your picture, but I can't remember what it was called, probably because I prefer transparent or translucent stones. One of the other sites I read said that high quality aquamarine is considered transparent and lower quality is usually translucent, but non of them said it can be opaque.
I'm not trying to be bitchy. Really I'm not. I just think it's in your best interest to sell a stone by the right name.
Like I stated previously, Aquamarine CAN COME IN A SOLID COLOR STONE. Earlier this year I ran across some Gorgeous Brazilian Aquamarine that was solid as well, but more of a baby blue than blue-green. I checked with my Aunt & Uncle who work with stones mined deep within the earth all the way to those cloer to the top (They're both PHD's at Oakridge National Laboratories in Tennessee specializing in drilling toward the earth's core. They're actually Microbiologists with a passion for Geoloogy and have a collection of stones from all over the world. They agreed, not all aquamarine are translucent, Designer grade generally is. I do know what I purchased, it was not off e-bay, but from a real gemstone strand wholesaler, I suggest if you have a problem with my auctions, don't bid, and don't return to them. The next time this happens, you will find yourself blocked from bidding. Kim
If you want to block me because I disagreed with you then that is your prerogative. I didn't do anything wrong and was perfectly nice. I don't see what you're getting all defensive about. You could have explained that to me nicely. Some people are misinformed. I tried to find what you were talking about on a few websites and I could not. I actually came back to tell you because I thought you might want to know. FYI, if you're careful and know what you're doing (which you seem like you do) you can get good stones off ebay. You just have to only buy from people who have been selling for a long time and have feedback of 99% or higher. I have a few contacts on Etsy who recommended some good sellers to me. I think it's basically like you do where they get good prices for buying in bulk and sell smaller quantities for a profit, but still at great prices. I have had pretty good luck on ebay for all kinds of things and if there's a problem then ebay helps resolve it.
I, too, have found some great stones on e-bay, but didn't want you to think that these were some that I was fooled with. These actually came from Beadaholique via Amazon. I have been buying in bulk and auctioning gemstones on listia for 2 years npw, and have never had a problem with the stones I've presented for auction. You should have seen the Brazilian Aquamarine, they were actually solid light blue with some dark striachens thru them - they really were beautiful for being of the opaque variety of aquamarine! I'm not going to block you, just please understand, I sell quality stones of different grades, but always beautiful. This week is unusual, as I generally have auctions on both Sat. & Sun., but last week's auctions were so numerous I'm still not caught up!
