The listing, Rosa multiflora - Multiflora Rose plant has ended.
Rosa multiflora - Multiflora Rose.
I first encountered these in Indiana years ago. I couldn't figure out the source of an intoxicating rose fragrance until I noticed the small white flowers. There were also some growing on campus.
I was thrilled to find them again in the backyard of my house in NC! I cut them back at the end of the summer and shape them during the summer. To me the fragrance makes having them worthwhile. The shrubs I have are volunteers!
The small plant in the second photo is a seedling. The first photo is of my blooms last spring.
I have included closeups of the individual blooms. You can see that the center and shape of the petals clearly show it is a true rose. The third photo shows how big the bushes can get! They are blooming right now and as I drive down the mountain highways, I can see them lining the road. Of course I have the windows down!
Caution - This is considered invasive in some areas! After all, it is a WILD rose variety. They will spread but I keep mine in line by hard pruning after they bloom.
