The listing, 2001 $5 Republic of Liberia BEAUTIFUL COIN~NOT YOUR TYPICAL COIN Please read description! has ended.

While this description is lengthy, please read it in it's entirety for a reasonable understanding of the coin, it's inception, history & value. I realize it's long, but important in order to understand why this coin is not a "typical" coin.
This 2001 $5 Liberia coin is in pristine un-circulated condtion and has incredibly beautiful detail. I've done considerable research on Liberia currency & coins, including visiting the official Republic of Liberia gov. website. The U.S. has provided billions of $'s to this impoverished African country which accepts both their own currency & US currency in everyday commerce. In fact Liberia citizens prefer US currency to their own. While this $5 coin & other Liberia coins I have listed on Listia were once legal tender in Liberia, there is a great deal of controversial info on the internet arguing that they are still legal tender although they are not. This coin, & the others I have posted on Listia were actually minted in the US or Germany under an agreement between two private US companies (including the coins minted in Germany) & the Liberia gov. Terms of the agreement were that the coins would be considered & called legal tender in Liberia but that the companies minting them in the US would only "sell" them as "collector" coins and ONLY in the United States. Per the agreement, a % of the sales was paid to the gov. of Liberia. Liberia never thought the coins would find their way into the Liberia economy. Unfortunately millions of coins were brought into the country by way of tourists w\ almost disastrous results for the countries already shaky impoverished financial stability. Needless to say, they are no longer considered legal tender, however their collector value is beginning to increase as a result.
