Description

The listing, 40GB APPLE TV - 1st Gen. As Promised!!! has ended.

I won an Apple TV from Listia. I promised that if I won the new one, I would sell my old one here. So, here it is!

This is the First Generation. I pre-ordered it and received it the day it was released in stores. Unlike the new ones, this has a 40GB hard drive inside to store programming. Useful if you are going away and know there will be an HDTV there. You can just take it with you pre-loaded with stuff you will want to watch. The new one does not have a hard drive so you can't bring things with you. :o(

You are ONLY getting the Apple TV, Power Cord and Remote. You will need to have your own HDMI cable and Ethernet Cable (not required but nice to have).

You MUST have a TV with HDMI for this unit to work. We tried a converter once and it did not work. READ THE COMMENTS for specs, requirements and known issues.

FREE US SHIPPING
Canada will be required to pay EXACT FEDEX shipping. I will not ship via USPS because tracking is $25 alone. Give me your address and I will get you a quote.

NO, I will not lower the days, please do not ask.

Any questions, ask and I'll do my best to answer!

Good Luck and Happy Bidding!!

Correct, Its easy to please toddlers with tons of cartoons :), and this gadget is easy to use and easy to move.

Yeah, I wish the new one had a hard drive in it. :o(
But I do like the size of the new one...my husband couldn't even see it until I pointed it out! lol! That is the one thing I will miss about this one, portability. IF i had a laptop, I COULD bring the new one and sync, but I don't so portability with the new one is out of the question. Thanks for commenting, jasper!!

Congrats! This will now come with an HDMI cable if the winner doesn't mind waiting an extra day or two for me to ship (it should arrive in the mail in that time)!

Hey everyone!

THE SERVER IS GIVING GATEWAY ERRORS AS I TYPE THIS

If you want this, you might not want to wait til the last second because there is a good chance that your bid could fail. The last time I had auctions running (7 of them to be exact) during a "whiteout", the gateway server failure lasted almost 3 hours. I am praying that won't happen today, but I wanted to give you the heads up just in case.

Seems fixed right now, but not even 5 minutes ago, it was fixed then went back to more gateway errors so I have a feeling more are on the way. I have submitted a support ticket but they probably won't get back to me until tomorrow which doesn't help me now. :o)

Thanks, It Helps. One of my 14 yr. old twin sons, was telling me that I may have to pay a monthly fee to itunes! Which I did not think of, He Did! So, I would love to bid, have been watching your auction for days, and thought, He may be right!! I had better ask! Thanks for such a great listing:)

actually the hot plate thing is a good idea. If Apple & they must know that the unit gets hot(much like my laptop!) Did they make or sell any cooling accessory, Like a cooling Fan?? thanks:)

No problem! Yes, its always better to ask than assume, but you're son probably wasn't the only to think that a fee was part of the Apple TV deal! lol!

No, apple never made anything to cool these off, BUT, other companies do sell laptop and netbook fans. You can even buy them at Walmart, Target, Staples, etc.

If you won and decided to get one, I would definately go with a netbook fan because the regular laptop fans would be too big. A USB one SHOULD work with the USB ports in the back of the Apple TV. I have never found use for those USB ports (the Apple TV does NOT recognize external hard drives through the USB ports on the back). This is a GREAT idea! Wish I had thought of it!

If you think you (or anyone else may go that route, here are some I found:

Targus Chill Mat (Best one IMHO because of its size and it being flat instead of angled)

ThermaPAK, Laptop Cooling Heatshift Pad, for 10-Inch Laptops (also flat but no fans)

Eforcity POTAN3-NBFAN Notebook Cooling Fan (this one is the thinnest but large footprint)

Syba CL-NBK68003 Notebook Cooler (another small one I found)

Hope this helps!

Hi,
Do you use your itunes account, to pay a monthly Fee for it's use? If so, how much? Thanks
Nov 7th, 2010 at 10:28:11 AM PST by
Original
Hi! Wonderful question!

THERE IS NO MONTHLY FEE OR SUBSCRIPTION REQUIRED!!!!

Sorry for the caps, I wanted everyone to see the answer. lol! There is actually no such thing when it comes to Apple. Yes, the only video that will work is apple formatted video, but it does NOT have to be purchased from iTunes. You DO need an iTunes account (free, though) but you do not HAVE to purchase anything. What a person WILL need to do is convert any video to M4V files before they will transfer to the AppleTV. There are many free video converters on the web but you will have to find the one that works best for you.

I hope this answers your question, but if you have anymore, please feel free to ask! :o)

I'm glad you like it! I guess its because I've always had one, but I can't believe you never saw one before! :oO

If you HAVE seen the Mac Mini, its about the same size except its not as thick. I didn't measure it, but I'd say its about 5 or 6" on each side and about an inch and a quarter thick. Besides that, the only thing that matters is its a lot of fun to use! ;o)

******ATTENTION********

If bidding reaches 10,000 credits, I will include this brand new HDMI cable I just won on LIstia! http://www.listia.com/auction/1029452

Please be aware, though, that
1. I may have to send it after the Apple TV since I am relying on another person to send it to me. AND...

2. if the person should NOT send it, I will not be replacing it with another one (unless I'm able to win another one here).

These cables can cost anywhere from $25 to almost $100 depending on brand and quality. I just can't afford to buy one at the moment so winning one here is the only way for me to get an extra one for you. :o)

Original
HOWEVER, should this person not send me the cable, I will include a bonus item at 10,000 to replace the cable. Not sure what it will be yet, but there is no need to worry about that right now. Hopefully, I will get the cable to send and that's if we reach 10k credits. :o)

Thanks! It really is! Its come in really handy for when I babysit my nieces. Instead of lugging DVD's over (and possible forgetting one or more) I'd bring this with me loaded with everything from Sesame Street and Dora to Pixar Movies. And the kids love using the interface to choose what they want to watch! They get so much more excited for this than me bringing a DVD. My sister has one now so I don't have to take it with me anymore. :o)

so this is only to watch tv, no internet?
Oct 30th, 2010 at 10:53:52 AM PDT by
Original
No, there is no browser, it not a WebTV. It DOES have YouTube, iTunes Store for Movies, TV Shows and Music, Allows you to watch Video Podcasts on your TV, Picture Screensaver - both Apple Stock Photos and you can sync your own photos and can play your music through your TV while playing a photo slide show. You can still RENT shows and movies like on the new Apple TV's since its the software that allows that, not the hardware.

The whole point of the Apple TV is to bring your iTunes Library from your computer to your television so people aren't limited to watching the shows, movies, photos and music on an iPod, iPhone or their computer screen.

The Apple TV is meant for Home Entertainment, but not browsing the internet. Hope this answered your question!

40 GB - Wow, and 8 days left- enough time to collect more credit for this wonderful auction. One quick question - How much will be the S/H charges up to Canada? Thanks in advance
Oct 30th, 2010 at 6:13:22 AM PDT by
Original
It depends. Shipping will be exactly how much it costs to ship to the winner. If you send me a private message with your address, I will get the rate for you. I will send it the cheapest method, FedEx Ground and do not charge packaging/handling fees.

What I CAN tell you is the iPod Shuffle I just sold was $20 for the lower territories and $60+ for the upper territories. Obviously the Shuffle weighs less than an Apple TV so.... The difference between Ontario and Vancouver was only 50 cents or so so I just rounded down to $20.

I WILL, however, only charge the DIFFERENCE. I will pay whatever it would cost to ship to US via USPS and only charge the remaining amount so that its not too much money for Canadians. Hope this answered your question. Thanks for asking it!! :o)

While the new Apple TV's only retail for $99, this model was $229. They were much more expensive due to size and the fact that they had a hard drive inside to store locally - the new ones do not.

1. Sometimes has a problem connecting with iTunes. This isn't my model its a problem with all first gen AppleTV's. It also takes a LONG time to sync your stuff via wifi. I got around it by using an ethernet cable hooked from the AppleTV to the router. You also have the option to stream but it was too slow for me - I preferred syncing.

2. This is NOT a smoke free home and as a result, the Apple TV is a little yellowed. There is also two velcro patches on the side of the unit because we stuck the remote to is so we wouldn't lose it. You CAN peel them off, but I will let the winner decide if they want to or not. The remote is a newer one and does not have the velcro on it but you can always add it so that you don't lose the remote either. :o)

3. The cord has some paint on it. Doesn't affect use and once hooked up, you probably won't see the cord anyway.

4. This model gets EXTREMELY HOT. I kept it on a hot plate to protect the entertainment center and to keep the bottom of the unit ventilated. I will include the thing I kept under it if the winner wants it.

If I think of anything else, I will post it below.
