Description

The listing, 3 Thornless Nopal "Nopales" Cactus Plant Starts Old Plant Stock has ended.

You will get 3 live leaf starts from this Thornless Nopales or Cactus.
This cactus could be considered HEIRLOOM as it is direct planting from a very old stock from West Texas. The main plant these came from is at least twenty years old or older. This is a wonderful way to get your nutrients without paying big $$ for them.
They grow well indoors with plenty of sun in warm room or outdoors where it doesn't go below 32 degress for more than 2 or 3 days.
They grow to be huge trees if left to themselves.
They can be pruned and even cut down and they will grow back. The fruits still have little HAIR THORNS so take care still when picking and cleaning.
Just stick the starts into sandy soil and keep mildly damp. Start will root and your cactus is on it's way.
Take small leaves off when you want to eat, wash carefully scrape off nubs and bumps.
Slice diagonally into very thin slices, saute in pan with a little coconut oil and lime juice or lemon and onion if you choose. Once the color has changed they are ready to eat. If they are too slimey and there is a lot of gelatin use a screen and rinse till slime is rinsed off. Then reheat in pan for a couple more minutes. Saute with meat or shrimp virtually anything you'd like. The smaller and thinner the better, I think. You can also boil first and strain. Then fry.
They have a semi sour taste once cooked.
Great for lowering blood pressure and great for diabetics: Daily intake of 100g to 500g of nopal cactus divided in three servings is the recommended dose for diabetes. Broiled stems are more effective than raw stems
