It does connect through normal USB ports on your computer or laptop. There is a plastic protective piece over it in the pictures.

Thank you, fanned back. I never even used this. I am a Virgin Mobile customer, and when I saw this on clearance at the store for $10 I couldn't help but to buy it. Still siphoning the neighbor's WiFi, and can tether from my phone, so it's just a redundant item for me to have laying around.
