The listing, Steampunk Book-Safe has ended.
FREE SHIPPING! It's a secret stash vault inside a book. The book used to make the book-safe was an American History Textbook copyright 1897. I saved one of the prints (the signing of the Declaration of Independence I think) along with the copyright, and mounted them on the back cover (the bottom of the book-safe). I'm including a key made from 1/8" brass hammered + tooled to resemble a goth cross with a gold colored pentacle attached which can be used to open the safe by inserting the cross-key into a slot on the back of the safe and sliding the latch into the open position. The cross-key can also be worn as a necklace, and I'm including a jump ring with an extra long piece of plain brown jeweler's hemp to serve as a temporary string necklace. The corners have been covered with tin + antiqued--much of the rest of the book-safe has been reinforced with tin as well. Both covers, front + back, have been covered with black denim and so as the spine. The top of the safe swings open + closed on a brass hinge bolted through the spine. I've heard it said that if a thief finds something he stops looking, and with that in mind, I created a smaller second vault beside the main vault. The smaller vault hinges on felt ad can be accessed by removing the painted nut which serves to keep it closed. The idea with a double vault is to hide something of value in the main vault, but the real treasure is hidden in the second vault. The main vault is about 2" by 6" and 1" deep. The second vault is much smaller and could conceal several small rings or rolled-up currency. On the top cover is an image covered with hairspray, Elmer's glue, and floor finish respectively. I dripped melted oil pastel here and there which was also then sealed with floor finish. The runes which spell "DEAR DUMBASS" were crafted from white marble chips, rounded + flattened with a rotary tool, and then stamped with ink.
