Description

The listing, New BOSS Audio BV8724 CAR STEREO, 1-DIN DVD/CD; 4.3" LCD,MP3,SD,Touchscreen,more--defective? has ended.

Caveat emptor: Bidders are responsible for reading, inquiring about, understanding and agreeing with this stereo's condition prior to bidding. I will describe its function or lack thereof to the best of my ability. Sold AS IS!

I purchased this and then stored it for several months. When a stereo failed in my vehicle I had it professionally installed. When I left the installer's shop, the radio, touchscreen and flip screen were working fine. When I tried to learn its functions, it would not respond properly. Then I had difficulty getting it to play in radio mode.

I took it to another installer for the purpose of learning what I might be doing wrong. The installer claimed that the stereo is defective. He removed this stereo and installed a USB flash drive stereo in my car. I suffered a $300 loss on this unit.

I question whether or not the most recent installer just wanted to sell me one of his models or if this stereo is defective. Bidders should consider this as defective unless you find out otherwise. If you discover that it works properly or can fix it, you will have a jam-up, incredible stereo. All original accessories and user's manual are included.

just curious why you didnt get a manufacturer refund, even if you got bad item from seller, you can still contact the actual company, most offer 90 day if not 1 year warranty

This stereo was held in safe storage in an unopened box for several months if not over a couple of years. I didn't think to contact the manufacturer but asked the Walmart stores (the corporate office) for an exception to their refund policy. I had proof of purchase, installation receipts, etc. Walmart did not even acknowledge my correspondence which is not surprising. I would have accepted their refusal but to completely ignore me was business at its worst.

Also, I am soured on the brand name and all the intricacies involved in operating it. I am happy with the flash drive stereos in my car and have no longer have need for the video portion of this stereo. Since then I've become literate with portable devices.

I am a dog breeder who was going to use the video to display pups to customers during travel; however, within another year I will be retiring from that business.

Basically, times change and goals change.

Thanks for such a good question.

would you send all paper work you have for this unit with it to the new winner that you mentioned in the comments reply you made about this unit?

Yeah, I stuck the purchase receipt in the box. You will have the date of purchase but I threw away the installation receipt.

I would contact the manufacturer but that would involve another shipping fee and I don't care to spend another penny on this. I spent $212 on the stereo and $80 for a meaningless installation. That's why I decided to start over and buy a working stereo using a local installer. (This stereo was ordered and installed out of town.) Maybe I can claim this as a casualty loss.

So, all bidders, you might want to contact the manufacturer about this unit and try to exchange it; however, there may be nothing wrong with it in the first place. Find some way to test it before going thru a lot of trouble.

BID BID BID because no matter what you spend on it, you will come out ahead.

I read the whole post and questions. The only question I have left to ask, since all my other ones were answered already, is:

When you were trying to use all the functions were you using the remote or the buttons/touchscreen?

The shipping fee is absolutely agreeable since its a "free" item and decks weigh alot.

I will be watching closely!!

First of all, and don't be offended, I think that a remote control to a stereo in a confined car is laughable. I consider that the epitome of lazy, kind of like an electric toothbrush, not to mention dangerous while driving. I threw it in the glovebox. I used the touchscreen which responded normally.

Secondly, I tried the CD player immediately after leaving the installer's shop. No response. I attributed that to my lack of knowledge.

About 24 hours later I was in town and drove to Walmart's parking lot. If my memory serves me correctly, I was still trying to get the CD player to respond (zilch) and then tried to transfer back to radio mode (only response was a distant Spanish-speaking station). I decided that I was an imbecile, so a few weeks later I took it to the second installer for lessons, even after having read instructions. The installer belittled the brand name and then tested it with a fuse tester. He and his boss stated that the stereo was defective. No description of the defect was given clearly, even after I asked.

With what I had been told ions ago about the complexity of the installation, I suspect that it is quite possible that the first installer may not have installed the unit properly; however CAVEAT EMPTOR again. Consider it defective.

I feel the same way about the remote. I once bought a car were the previous owner had Velcro strips all over the dash do he wouldn't use the remote.......I thought it was funny.

But thank you for your very through comment. I will still be keeping an eye on it. I love wiring projects.

I bet that the previous owner of the car also put black tape over the engine light sensor...heh heh...Anyway, if you want a wiring project, this is a biggie. Have your breakfast , lunch and dinner handy, along with a tent. You can hook up the video so that it is disabled during driving. I recall seeing those directions and thinking since I am intelligent enough not to watch videos while driving, I don't think I want that feature hooked up.

LMAO!! No he just took out the fuse.....when I replaced them all I was pretty confused as to why the light suddenly came on. Duh!!

I'm actually used to video playing on the dash while driving. My husband got a huge 8 inch touch screen all in one deck that plays movies. Ive learned to block it out while driving.

Oh, man, I didn't think of removing the fuse. Now I know what I need to do with my Miata. It has a rigged breather (previous idiot owner's brilliance) and the engine light comes on because of it.

I don't think I could block a video, so I just wouldn't play one while driving.

ouch!! yeah just pull the fuse if its only that. mine was the cat converter.

When I need a new muffler I have those babies straight piped. It gives your car about 100k more miles of life. I could care less about the environazis.

I got the resonator pipe straight piped and a nice magna flow muffler but I didn't think the cat con. could be straight piped. I may just do that since I can't find the nerve to spend $400-$600 on a new one.

Sorry I'm littering your auction with my not so "about the auction" comments!!

I had my 300ZX straight piped (dual exhaust). Afterwards, the garage offered to add a resonator - after the fact. My Z sounds like a racecar but is street legal. I know since I'm a retired cop. I told them that they had their chance to do it right the first time around and to give me my car. Never again will I go to that shop.

All your posts are welcome.

well all these questions that everyone are asking you do not really matter it is still a gamble that someone has to be willing to take to own it so either they step up and bid or forget about it.

That's why right now I am the high bidder and as things go along the other bidders will find out just how high they will have to bid in order to win this from me so lol

Good luck to you and all bidders. It is my sincere wish to receive an e-mail from the winner telling me that the stereo works just fine and that they are very happy with it.

Confused? No. Illiterate? Yes. I've had a handful of people tell me that they didn't want to bid, thinking that I was advocating Satan. It's just a reflection of the failure of our educational system.

After reading through everything here it is my honest opinion that the last professional to "test" this was completely full of it and more interested in making a quick sale than repairing something that is likely unbroken.
A fuse tester does just that, tests fuses, and if this unit had a blown fuse, it wouldn't power on at all.
More than likely the underpaid 20 something that installed it did so incorrectly and as such the unit malfunctioned.
On the other hand, it could very well be defective.....Either way, I hope to win and get a good deal, provided you have nothing against shipping to Canada.

My sentiments exactly; however, I am a music fanatic and am much happier with the second installation.

As for shipping to Canada, it is VERY expensive. I would have to ask the PO to weigh it, then send the shipping bill to the winner. It will be far higher than $22. Our international rates have skyrocketed. If you bid, you must have that understanding.
Jun 28th, 2013 at 7:04:18 PM PDT by
Original
PLEASE, NO MORE CANADIAN BIDDERS. WHY?
You must understand that:

1. 'No international shipping' is posted.
2. If you win, you would be paying far more than the posted $22 USD.
3. I have no monetary protection with this shipment. USPS does not offer any type of tracking or insurance to other countries.
4. PayPal doesn't offer me any protection since they are Buyer Friendly, not Seller Friendly.
5. I reserve the right to cancel your transaction if your address is in Canada due to the aforesaid reasons.

I regret this notice but the shipment incurs too many risks.
