The reason it does not save is because the battery is dead. This can be replaced manually.

I know it's because of the battery just that what type of battery is needed

you have to get the battery from nintendo, they are a special size lithium ion cell, similar to the one in a motherboard

Actually, you don't need to use Nintendo's batteries. I can't remember the size needed off the top of my head, but they can be manually replaced. It would just void any warranty for replacement from Nintendo itself. Though, I'm sure the Game Boy games may be obsolete for that option now.
