Description

The listing, Aloe Vera Starts has ended.

This is for two starts from the mother plant pictured. They can be picked up or delivered locally or I will ship free.

Aloe Vera has been grown for centuries for its medicinal properties. Since biblical times it has been used to treat a variety of ailments including cuts, minor burns and skin rashes. Today it is still used in many herbal preparations and beauty products. The plant’s leaves contain a gelatinous sap that can be applied directly to the skin.

Aloe Vera is an easy plant to grow and can be planted indoors or outdoors, though it is very sensitive to frost. The plant is native to Africa and the Mediterranean and so adapts easily to warmer climate zones throughout the United States. In cooler zones Aloe Vera may be grown in a container and brought indoor during the winter months.

Aloe Vera plants produce offspring which develop as small shoots at the base of the main plant. These smaller plants can be gently removed when they are about an inch in height and planted in their own pot. Cutting from larges leaves may also be taken and planted to develop a new plant.

Oh my lord, it was root bound so I thought I would replant it. It was a full day project, and I still have more of them to plant. All in all I have about 20 plants that will probably reproduce too :O.

Toxicity: Toxic to Dogs, Toxic to Cats
Toxic Principles: Saponins

If your pet ingested this plant, contact your local veterinarian or the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center at 888-426-4435.*

Children and Pets
Always display the aloe vera plant out of the reach of young children and animals. The University of Wisconsin lists the aloe vera as a toxic plant and reports that aloe vera latex consumed in large quantities can lead to diarrhea. Serious bouts of diarrhea in young children and animals may result in loss of electrolytes and dehydration. If you suspect the ingestion of aloe vera latex by a young child or animal, it is important to call your local poison control center and seek medical attention immediately.
