The listing, Vintage Beaded Purse has ended.

This is a fantastic little treasure. I don't remember seeing anything like it. it goes from an opening of about 1/2" to about 4" it is about 4" deep. Just big enough for a lady's essentials, ie a lip stick and a little money. There are no missing beads, but the thread around the top edges has frayed some and needs repaired. The lining is a satin material and is in fair condition, no holes or tears, but a small stain, (lipstick?) near the top. it is also missing a small brad in the frame work, hardly noticeable, but worth mentioning. I don't know how old this is, I am no expert. It was my mother's when she passed. She loved old and odd things the way I do. Happy to answer any questions. The beads are metal but I don't know what type, there are no worn spots on the beads, the finish looks great. On this item I will be happy to refund if the buyer is not happy with it. I really don't want to let it go, but someone should be enjoying it, instead of it setting in a dresser.

Beautiful! Does it have a "Whiting and Davis" tag inside? If it does, it's worth A LOT of money! I used to have one. It's a vintage "Whiting and Davis" accordion hinged metal mesh purse. A very lucky bidder will win this bag! Good luck! :)

well after the information you gave me, I did a bit of research and I believe you are right. There are several different styles of these called "Begger's Bags" but only the ones listed as "Whiting and Davis" have the same kind of mesh that mine has. Most attribute the style from the 30's and 40's WW2 era. I could not find a tag on mine though.

I really like the feel of the mesh, it is like liquid silver. I would love a scarf or even a blouse made out of it.

Are there loops or anything where a strap could be or could've been attached? Seems unlikely to have been a hand held item. Incredible piece! You are a wealth of treasures!

yes, most of the time they seem to have used them as a wristlet. you could attach a small chain on it. in my description "it is also missing a small brad in the frame work," I think this must be where the chain was attached. Ebay has had a few for sale on there, I looked under "gated mesh bag" also "Whiting and Davis" mesh bag. Their's are more expensive, and many times mine is in much better condition. But you could see where the chain was attached. I don't remember seeing a chain on most however. Interesting story on these "Begger Bags"
