Composite Video: Yellow
Composite video gets its name due to the chrominance and luminance, or color and brightness, combining along one cable. In addition, the timing and sync information is carried on this single cable, decoded by the television. This cable type therefore represents baseband video, and cannot carry resolutions beyond 480 lines interlaced.
Component Audio: Red and White
RCA stereo audio cables are not inferior to other audio cable types, when carrying stereo. Component audio cables each carry half the audio signal in a stereo environment, one cable per channel. Red represents the right channel (or speaker input,) while white is used for the left channel. There is a huge selection in the aftermarket cabling arena, all using variances on the base component audio cable topology. These cables are also used in car audio at a near-universal rate.
