Ha ha. Using American Sign Language to teach babies and children to communicate before they can talk. It's using hand gestures not writing.

F&W :) I use to work with sever profound adults and had to use some sign. So when my son was born I thought it would be cool to sign with him the ones I knew until one day when changing his diaper he signed "no" to me and he couldn't even talk yet! I stopped signing with him. At the time I thought I was quitting because I was afraid he wouldn't talk and that he would just sign. Now looking back I think I just didn't want to be told "no" in multiple languages, LOL. I soooo want to win these for my baby daughter!

That's a common concern that the babies would delay talking but they actually communicate sooner and without all the drama of meltdowns. Yes, it is hard when you realize your baby is becoming independent and has his/her own will and has expressed their boundaries. It's definitely a plus to be able to communicate with our babies even if it's not what we want to hear;) fanning back btw.
