it is 7 to 7 1/2 both ways it still has the old book with it to show u how to use it but I just measured it my self tks for checking in on my auctions an if bidding Good Luck .

My grandmother had one of these! I used to make potholders for days!!! I am going to bid on this, since my uncle is a jerk and literally threw away 2 closets full of craft stuff when she passed. I have a newer one, but I like the way the metal one works better(plastic is too slippery). Just a bit of advice(if I happen to not win this). You don't have to buy the loops at stores. You can make your own from old t shirts... As well as use bits of ribbon. You can even use plastic bags(We used to make strong grocery bags like this and we would use woven yarn as the handles). So much you can do with these... They are definitely not just for pot holders.. :)
