The listing, WWII Aerial Gunner's Wings in sterling silver...Militaria collector's check this out!!! has ended.
Up for auction is a really nice vintage original World War II aerial gunner's wings badge made of sterling silver. The detail on these are amazing (as can be seen in pictures) for being so old.
These wings were first created and issued to the gunners of the US Army Air Corps to recognize both the training and hazardous duty of aerial gunners, who manned the machineguns on board aircraft as the B-17, B-24, B-25, B-26 and B-29 bombers.
The gunner badge was issued until 1953, in the newly created United States Air Force of 1947 and was declared obsolete and phased out. Any member who had the badge was authorized to wear it until 1955 and after that point, it was no longer authorized to be worn on a US Air Force uniform.
This badge is heavy, it weighs in at just over 18 grams and is made of .925 sterling silver. The badge is about 3" wide and 3/4" tall. It was originally a clutch back style but at some point the pins broke off so you would either have to get new pins tacked on, or have the piece mounted to something to display it.
This is a super piece and a must have for any military badge collector, aviation enthusiast, Army / Air Force historian!!! Check around, these pieces are quite valuable and getting harder and harder to come by!
As always, free shipping!!! Good luck bidding and thanks for stopping by!!
