Description

The listing, 1943 War Penny has ended.

You are bidding on a 1943 War Penny, also called Steelie's This coin is in original condition, it has a bright silver color, however contains no silver instead is Steel and Zink coated.
Steel pennies were minted in 1943 because of Word War II. Copper was needed for the war effort, so production on copper pennies was halted. Since many steel cents corroded and became dull soon after entering circulation, some dealers who sold the coins as novelties improved their appearance by "reprocessing" – stripping off the old zinc coating and then replating them. These reprocessed coins have little or no numismatic value.
Fun Fact:
A 1943 steel penny is the only regular-issued coin that can be picked up by a magnet. It is also the only coin not containing copper to be circulated.
