The listing, 8 Elephant Ear Plants!! has ended.

Hi just wanted to say that our plants are growing in the ground until there is a winner. We trim the plants down for packaging, with roots intact so they will grow back fast! Wrapped in damp news paper and wrapped in plastic to maintain moisture threw-out the shipping process You will get a healthy batch of 8 elephant ear plants!!! Characteristics of Elephant Ear Plants:
In landscaping, elephant ears are grown for their large, heart-shaped leaves. While these leaves can reach 3' long and 2' wide in the tropics, in the North they will remain a little smaller -- but still impressive. Elephant ear plants can grow 8' tall in the tropics; in the North, a height of 2'-5' is more common (depending on growing conditions. Sun and Soil Requirements for Elephant Ear Plants:
Grow elephant ears in a slightly acidic soil in partial shade. As a wetland plant in the wild, elephant ear plants crave water. This makes them a good choice for wet areas where homeowners usually have trouble finding suitable plants. However if taken care of they can be grown in pots, a nice spot in the yard, and make great house plants. Plant Care for Elephant Ears:
Elephant ears are heavy feeders; fertilize them with a fertilizer high in nitrogen. Elephant ear plants are tropical but can be overwintered in cold climates. Just dig up the corms (bulbs) and keep them in a cool, but not freezing basement or garage, as you would store canna bulbs. During this period of dormancy, make sure the corms neither rot nor totally dry out. Replant in spring when danger of frost has passed. I have elephant ears now, and have had off and on for many years and have never had one bloom. Is it me, the soil, or do species bloom and some do not?

I would think it would be between species. My wife and i got our elephant ears with our house, her grand parents had planted the elephant ears, around 20 years or so ago, and they have multiplied across the years. I have looked at a little info on the web about the flower, and from what i gather the plants produce threw sending out tubers, and they also will flower and drop a seed. The flower is impressive and short lived, and this will happen with the more mature plants, the smaller ones we have as of yet have not flowered, so this may have to do with the maturity of the plant. i do no the crave water, we have some next to the creek and they are huge and flower every year, the ones we have in flower beds get significantly less water and have not bloomed. i would recommend a soggy spot in the yard or a planter that you could water from the bottom. hope this helps, feel free to ask questions, if i don't have the answer i will gladly see what i can find to get you the info. Thanks
