The instructions say ; Replace battery with only one 1.5 volt silver oxide battery, either union carbide 392 or Ray-O-Vac RW47. Hope that helps :-)

I have one of these that I put on a new chain (original broke) and I love it! the battery is easily replaceable, and lasts a long time.
