Questions & Comments
Amazon okay? You can buy it online and either send it to me when you buy it, or just post the code to the auction win page.
You just go online and buy it. The gift code will be e-mailed. You can either have the e-mail sent to you, then post the gift card on the correspondence on the listing page, or have the gift code sent directly to the winner (you'll have to get their e-mail address). It's very easy, much easier than shipping a card!
I'm the same way, I only use my Paypal account. That way you can pay with your credit card or bank account and the vendor doesn't see your credit card information. I've used Paypal for years and years and never had a problem with it. It's very nifty to be able to buy almost anything on the internet without giving any credit card info!
My computer was hacked a couple of years ago by someone I worked with. He managed to purchase several things online using my accounts. I have no idea how but he did. I just do not buy on line since then. My sister once got bumped in a store and the person had a card reader in their pocket and it picked up her debit card through her pocket. It was a mess.
I'm also wondering if you can buy Amazon gift cards in Target and other places like that, which sell tons of gift cards. I do most of my shopping online, so I don't really know, but I know you can buy tons of different gift cards at a lot of stores. I can use a different gift card if I win, but I'd just really rather have Amazon. I'm saving up to buy my daughter a computer, and you can accumulate gift $$$ in your account at Amazon and save them for as long as you want. You can buy almost anything on Amazon too.
OMG, that's terrible! You've had BAD luck! But your story proves a point, it really isn't any more secure to shop in a store than online. A common problem is that when you use your credit card, the casher can add a cash back to it without telling you, like $20. If you don't look at your receipt before you leave and catch it, the cashier has a friend in line behind you and gives it to that person. Even security cameras won't pick on on it unless the customer complains. So there's lots of ways to be a victim of credit card fraud.
But honestly, I highly recommend Paypal. I've been using it since it started, at least 10 years, and have NEVER had a problem. I hate it when I use any sort of web site that doesn't take it and I have to give my card number, but almost every web site now takes Paypal. You can complain about ebay/paypal all your want, but the fact is that they probably have the best security on the web!
Personally, I don't do much shopping in stores and almost never in any sort of crowded places, and I think that reduces my risk substantially. I usually carry my credit card in a pocket or in my bra, almost never carry a purse either. Honestly, I think transactions on the web are safer, particularly if you use Paypal. I've come to really love shopping online, but I also hate to slog around stores. Whenever my daughter wants me to go shopping with her (she's a teen, I should be grateful) after about two hours I'm totally burned out. I hate malls!
