Bitter gourd lowers blood glucose levels

Scientific studies show that bitter gourd lowers blood glucose. Bitter gourd unlike most drugs which are effective only in one target organ or tissue, influences glucose metabolism all over the body.

Lowers dietary carbohydrate digestion

Bitter gourd reduces the amount of glucose that is released into the blood by inhibiting the enzymes that break down disaccharides to monosaccharides (e.g. glucose) Bitter gourd can influence the transport channels for glucose, which also reduces glucose transport into the blood. This effect is important for the treatment of both Type I and Type II diabetic patients and helps to prevent high blood sugar levels after meals.

Bitter gourd plant insulin discovered

Bitter gourd increases pancreatic insulin secretion. There is an insulin-like molecule in bitter gourd. Though bitter gourd may reduce the number of insulin injections required to manage Type 1 diabetes, it cannot replace insulin treatment completely or heal diabetes.

Bitter gourd reverses insulin resistance

Scientific studies have shown that bitter gourd helps to prevent or reverse insulin resistance.

Bitter gourd prevents diabetic complications

Chronically high sugar concentrations from Type I and Type II diabetes increase the risk of inflammation and oxidation in the whole body, leading to blindness, diabetic feet, kidney disease, stroke, or heart attack. Consuming bitter gourd can help prevent these complications, as it has antioxidative properties.

Bitter gourd can protect the body from other non-communicable diseases

Bitter gourd has been shown to reduce hypertension, plasma cholesterol, and plasma lipids. Bitter gourd helps weight loss.

It is bitter as the name suggests. It's cut into pieces usually eaten sautéed or fried in oil with salt, turmeric powder and red pepper powder (everything according to your taste) and eaten along with rice and yogurt. Though it's bitter, it has a very appealing taste when prepared like this. The adventurous make a juice of it and drink it which is supposed to give you the maximum benefit. Personally I've never tried the juice, but I love the sautéed and fried versions of this veggie. Thanks a lot for stopping by. Hope to see you bidding.
