It's not new, i have opened it but i never added any of the software onto my computer because it didn't work with the year.

It uses windows XP as far as I know I never tried it on a mac, I have a macbook with updated software I can try to see if it reads it.

Does this have to have a certain kind of paper or can you write on any kind of paper with the pen and it read it into the computer?

It uses a special kind of paper i believe . It comes with the notebook that it needs.
