This is a traditional fishermen's sweater, made the way the Guernsey islanders made them - without seams. Guernsey, or "ganseys' as they are sometimes called, are knitted on fine needles and the resulting fabric is close and windrpoof. Steamless knitting is done in the round on four or more needles. The sleeves are knitted onto the body of the garment by picking up stitches, then continuing to work in the round down to the cuff.
