Description

The listing, (25) Hummingbird Vine Seeds has ended.

These were growing in my neighbor's yard and are SO beautiful I couldn't resist stopping and asking about them! The little star-shaped flowers are bright red and DO attract lots of hummingbirds, and even the little delicated frilled leaves are pretty.

The ones that caught my eye were growing along the fence in front of her yard (those are the first three pictures), then she took me around to the side yard to show me where they had taken over one of her shrubs (the last two pictures) and they were absolutely amazing to see in person!

She said that (like morning glory flowers) there's no way to gather ALL the seeds, so they keep coming back every year from the seeds she missed gathering. The she insisted on giving me a little baggie of seeds she'd already collected, but I have NO place in my yard to grow vines, so I can't really plant them. I thanked her repeatedly and now I'm sharing them with you!

From another auction for these, I learned they are also called cypress vines, and that it is best to soak the seeds in water overnight before planting them (like a lot of the "thicker" seeds).

You get 25 seeds in a little plastic baggie, and if you gather the seeds from these next year, you should have a lifetime supply and plenty to share, too!

Seeds (in their little baggie) will be cleverly hidden in a greeting card and are ready to mail as soon as the auction ends - all I need is your mailing address.

FREE shipping, anywhere in U.S.

Thanks for looking, and check out my other auctions, too!

does this have to grow on a fence or a stand? or can it grow on a tree or by itself?

I haven't tried on a tree, but if you just plant them in the ground they'll grow long vines all over the yard looking for something to climb on - and check out the picture of my neighbor's shrub that got completely covered over with these! ;)

Do these need any special care or are they pretty low maintenance. I'm going to get them for my mother she loves hummingbirds. Feel free to bid but I will win lol.

I haven't grown them myself (they're from my neighbor), but apparently they're pretty low maintenance - I just don't have a good place to grow vines!

your mom will LOVE them, and good luck bidding! ;)

One more question, what time of year do these seeds need to be planted?

plant in spring and they'll grow and keep blooming until the frost kills them off in winter (and you'll get millions of seeds for the next year and sharing with others- lol!)
