They don't have inserts as they are just fitteds, but they are snapped diapers, no velcro.

are they really absorbent, or are they more like covers?

They are pretty absorbant, I used them on my 2 1/2 yr old with a cover at night and he never leaked.

So this diaper needs a cover? Any stains? How old are they? Snaps intact?

Yes, this needs a cover, they are about 6 months old, no stains and all snaps are intact.

The outside of the diapers are plain white, no pattern at all. My camera died, this is an older picture...I will attempt to get a picture with my cell phone sometime this week. Thanks
