The Confederate rose, formally named Hibiscus mutabilis, grows as either a medium-sized shrub or as a small tree. The plant is a member of the hibiscus family, and develops papery flower blossoms between 4 and 6 inches in diameter in the summer and fall. The flowers are either pink or white, but change to a reddish color. The Confederate rose is a very hardy plant that requires only basic care. Place the cutting in a jar filled with water and place it in a warm area that receives lots of sunlight.
