I must say from one Dave who buys and sells comics to another, quit giving away all the secrets,...before they get wise to us. The CGC thing is tough for me.I mean I got a lot of CGC books the grade variants are hard for me to take some times.I do have 9.4's that are better in every way than some 9.8's.I have had 3 9.8's that the grader must have been blind,...really. I have however used this to my advantage at times. One of my best book to have been CGC upgraded is an Albedo #2 (1st app Usagi Yojimbo) I bought for 800$ because it was the single best copy I have ever seen it received a 9.6 grade which instantly made it a 30-3500$ book. I sent 10 books that time and got 2 9.8 s.Neither of the 9.8's were in as good condition as the Albedo. I did take it to hero-con earlier this year to have it regraded but the original art and the fact it was my son's first con was waay too pleasantly distracting,...so was the Black Cat.....wow great costume girl,...where ever you are, girl had,...skills.lol anyway thank you for shedding some light on things for people to possibly enjoy this "Sport" better and with better weapons get what your collection wants. Big key here as I have bought/sold for 30 yrs is "If you are serious about collecting and selling know what a mint comic really looks like,...they are extremely hard to find straight out of the distributors box or anywhere for that matter.Paper is fragile. Buy in "bulk" when you can, the extras pay for the keepers. Most likely you can't have it all, focus.Get the harder more expensive books you want in your collection first. 10% increase on 2$ is 20 cents 10% increase on 200$ is 20$. You make that 20$ increase if you already own the book not the dealer.Buy stuff later at a bargain, bundle ,bundle, bundle.Great words of advice and insight.

I hear ya sometimes I find myself giving away too much info lol. Like a bad villain. Never really understood why joker gave a batman a heads up or lex luthor telling superman his plans lol. But all geeks talk aside I hear ya. Shhhhh I never should buy and tell lol.

Lately things have not been what I expected from listia so this will probably be my last comic auction on this site. Too many changes without notice.

Been finding your posts interesting... I admit I was one of the rare ones in the 80's-90's to be a 'girl' interested in comics. It was & mostly still is a guy's game... so I'm curious what comic character got you hooked?
Aug 20th, 2013 at 9:28:20 PM PDT by

Well in the 80's I was very young. And my first comic book character was wolverine. But it was for the wrong reason. I really like batman but the comic had college grammar. Marvel was easy to read and during the 80's and I was coming from a generation of cult horror movies. Seeing nightmare of elm street, etc, etc.

So I walked past the comic store in the window is wolverine #1.
I remember this cover well because he was standing on a pile of men with his claws facing out.

So anything with wolverine is what I buying for a few months. But my heart was really with batman. I started buying batman just for the art. My dad would look in my room. And there I was with a Webster dictionary. Sounding out words I couldn't understand. My dad started reading me batman and after a little practice. My reading improve over time. And I was speed reading batman panel to panel.

Now I read a little of everything.

I'll share a example and some books i just got a few weeks back.

From time to time i will go to other comic store looking for comics. Made a stop by a store call Chicago comics. I was looking for books for customers. He had on his back wall Conan the barbarian #1 (1970). It was in great condition. He wanted 200 for it. I didn't buy anything that day. I wanted a better price. But i knew i wasn't getting it cheaper unless i was buying a lot.

So i came back with 500 bucks on me. My goal was to get that comic for 100 bucks.

Remember what i said (Money blinds.) So i had my pull list and grab everything i needed for customers and grab a xmen 266 and a secret wars 8 and spiderman 252,298,299 walking dead 92-100 all covers except the 1-200 and thanos quest 1,2.

I ask to take a closer look at the conan. This book was in high grade condition easy 9.0 or higher.

All the other books i was grabbing was sold or books i could flip easy on ebay.

I told the employee who was working. I want all of this and the conan book for 500.

He was confused and said i cannot do it. My response was are you turning down a 500 dollars sale. Maybe you should call your manager. He called the store owner and name all the comics i was buying and said he has 500 to spend. The store owner on the phone said (Do it.) Which i knew he would for a few reasons.

This was toward the end of the month. Diamond comics send a giant order during this time. And his rent is due and his bills.

So he was happy. And i got the book i want for 100 bucks. Took it to cgc at wizard.

Got it back a 9.4. Which i can sell for 600 to 750 on the open market.

That one book pay for everything. And i made some money too.

The other thing I have notice is how the market has change is.

The average buyer for comics would be males from 18-45.
But because of Hollywood and the big push toward popularity.

This has changes females have started buying comics as well.
Between anime and characters like Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, Mary Jane, She Hulk and others.

Before the push. The term "geek" was applied and collecting was look down at. And most females wouldn't even walk into a comic book store. Let alone buy anything. But like i said this has changed.

Now females will ask me questions about characters. Not just for gift buying but they are interested to know more about characters they like.

Some comic dealers still haven't embrace this change. And either do not give them attention or don't order the books to have available.

At shows I make section of characters. I'll have a Harley Quinn box and a wonder woman box. So if they are interested not only is it available but I know which book to show them and how to sell my comics.

Most dealers will not do this. It's a lot of work and you have to know your books.

Hopefully if one person has listen to what I share. Maybe I can help somebody find a way to get the comic they really wanted for a fair price.

If there is one thing I have learn over the years is helping others seems to come back ten fold. Call it karma or whatever the term is.

I agree that there aren't enough strong, positive female characters in comics ( that aren't scantily clad in almost nude costumes ). But like I said, I GET comics, its a fantasy world and the majority reading is male. But I do like a story and something interesting behind the artwork. I also agree that Jean Gray is way under rated and remains an "unused" story outlet. I also read the Witchblade/Darkness series and it was good. It had some decent background and moments of deeper thought processes going on. But I still really like the Peter Parker/Mary Jane storyline. It takes a strong woman to give her man some space & just let him "be" in the man cave but there's something to be said about being "Mary Jane" strong when your superhero man just cocooned himself to the ceiling for about a month. Gotta love the Mcfarlane "webbing"...

By the way, Twilight is now available as a comic... check ebay.

Big fan of darkness myself. And witchblade was great at first. First 18 issues and the witchblade and darkness tie in books were great. But fathom came out around this time and they loss focus. The later issues got away from the witchblade story and focus more on sara pessini. And when Michael turner stop drawing the book at issue 25. Well that sealed the deal. I couldn't stand randy green art and without more focus on the witchblade artifact they loss me.

And I didn't know twilight came out. I will hunting back issues to sell at comic book shows. I feel bad I had some customers ask for that at wizard world. And I said I didn't know if the book came out I doubt it's available.

But you gave me something new to hunt down. So thank you very much for the information.

Thanks for getting back to me... seems like you've gotten bitten by the comic book bug early. I think anything that inspires a kid to read is worthwhile - the best stories are always in your imagination anyways. My high school sweetheart got me into Spidey - we always talked about books, movies and one day he brings up that he has a small "collection" but he is really shy about it because he doesn't know if I'd agree with it. Turned out to be a bunch Spiderman comics... lol. So he got me into comics & I got him into collecting the other stuff: toys, cards & other collectibles. Kind of weird to be the only female in a comic store in those days... but it was fun. Anyways, I believe everyone should be open to an adventure :)

Yeah early spiderman had a lot of good content. And the classic love story between peter and mary jane. I feel like even now the comic industry is lacking positive female characters.

D.c had wonder woman which still is one of the most known comic characters but you can only revamp the amazon story so many times. But I feel marvel has try but still hasn't bought to the table a strong female lead character.

Yes marvel try this with ms marvel and to me lack content. She hulk again a good try. I feel this may change very soon. The next xmen movie is days of future fast. And jean grey phoenix story will be bought mainstream. So this will be a nice push in the right direction. Jean grey is a very strong character and it's about time marvel use her in the right way.

In the 90's and early 2000ish female characters were bought to the table. But it was the bad girl theme. Lady death, witchblade, and others. But to me this was more for the male readers to look at half dress women. Mostly all these stories lack content. Really just being honest. Hopefully the comic industry will embrace the new market and have a balance. And make more content for female readers. Instead of event book or books being release for shock value (aka putting wonder woman in a new costume.)

I for one welcome this and other dealer should too. It's a open market and there should be more positive strong female characters. No just for sex appeal or secondary characters.

Cool thank you for watching. Im not to worry about the credits. This auction require bidders to bid. I give better books and higher volume base on bids.

No bids and I simply slow down on key book and 1st appearance book and bonus comics book.

A lot of bidders know this from previous auctions. That is why it's at 30k already.

But thank you very much for showing a interest in my auction. This is the reason why I do this. I want to bring as much attention to the comic section on listia as possible.

I do not do these style auction often. And when I do run this format I try give everyone as many comic books as possible.

And other part of that is. I like talking lol. The social part of listia is what attract me to these style auctions.

My son is 31. F&W

Im sure you have some real good books. Based on his age. I would say you have some early silver age comics. I would recommend getting them appraise. Or if you know the issue numbers. I can give you a rough estimate. With older books condition is the key. And if they are in older bags and boards. I would say pick up a few supplies to preserve the condition. If you just have a few. Your local comic book should have a few silver age bags and boards for sale. I wouldn't buy a 100 count(Unless you have a 100 comic books.) This is what comic shops sell. But some shops sells single count for 10 cent to 50 cent.

Silver age spidey has a lot of key issues and there is a lot value in those comics.

And least but not least when you do decide to part with them. Sell them on the open market. A collector on ebay or amazon will always pay more then a dealer.

Superman is a character I enjoy if a good story ark is written. The new action comics I have enjoy a lot.

But I will say this. After the man of steel movie came out. The new book seem to be portraying superman in darker light.

If you son is younger. There are kids friendly books.

Justice league adventures
Tiny titans
Batman adventures

And pretty anything on the kids wb.

Spiderman for the most part has always been rated e for everyone.

But if you son is older please ignore this responds. Im always trying to help parents. And the newer comics have a rating system as well. So this will help you as well.

And the originals hold on to them. If you read previous message I have offer some advise on how to grade your own comics.

You can also have them appraise by a dealer. And if he honest he will tell you what they are worth. But teaching yourself is a better method.

And it will help you down the line when you feel it's time to sell your books.

3rd place still hasn't been reach yet (40k mark) and another tier bonus and still time to earn early bidder bonus (ending soon.) Keep those bids coming.

Another marvel book I wouldn't mind seeing get a mainstream push. House of m another crazy story and scarlet witch was a main character in that story.

Or civil war but this would take a lot of money. But if they could pull of avengers. Hey I put nothing past marvel at this point.

Give me civil war.
