My Review:
More action then horror ( since the characters spend more time striking back then being afraid ), 30 Days of Night: Dark Days picks up right where the first one ( 30 Days of Night [2007]) left off (Literally opening with the last scene from the first movie.) .

Stella ( survivor from the first movie ) is traveling the country and doing lectures where she recounts the events from the first movie and tries to convince people that vampires are real and that they are in danger.

Nobody really believes her until she meets a group of survivors from other incidents who have become vampire hunters. She reluctantly agrees to join them and they set off to kill the vampire queen before they can strike again.

The perks here are decent action, excellent gore effects, and some interesting kills. I also enjoyed Mia Kirshner's portrayal of Lilith (queen of the vampires). To put it into context of other vampire media, she plays the character a lot like Drusilla ( from Buffy the Vampire Slayer ). Adding a Carmilla-type (pale, frail, seemingly childlike and manipulative ) into the mix creates a nice counterpoint to some of the more physically aggressive vampires.

The ending is a good twist and well executed. (One could argue that that is thanks to the comic, which is true, but the film should be commended for delivering it well.)

Over all, though Dark Days is not quite on the level of the first film considering what passes for a horror sequel these days, this film continues the story without cloning the original... and that alone puts it well ahead of the curve.
