The reasons car seats expire
The plastic part of the car seat after about 5 to 8 years of aging being in a hot car (garage kept is even worse) Supposedly weakens the plastic so if your in a wreck the plastic could just bend dramatically rather then safely protecting your little one
Another reason car seats expire
Is cause Manufacturers are always coming out with newer better car seats that have better shock absorbing etc,

I just recently learned this my self so thought id pass it alone lol I always use to think that they expired so that you'd have to buy a new one (a money making Scheme) but the car seat covering is still very usable, also with infant car seats the base expires to for the same reasons

You can actually get fined for selling car seats out dated or that had been in an accident also cannot sell drop side cribs!please share this information>I worked in a daycare for 20+ yrs.

I've gone to places and tell them that cuz I look for the expiration date and when I see that they are expired and tell em they look at me like I'm stupid and leave it out and once I saw one that has writing on it not to sell or use and I showed them and they didn't care that just wanted the money

The expiration date is for the auction. I don't know if the carseat itself has a expiration date. I have never heard that before.
