Is the blue like a plastic coating or is it actual metal? I have never seen these before.Also can the inches be longer than 18 inches?

It feels very smooth & looks like some sort of coating over the actual metal. But when I tried scratching it with a fingernail, it would not scratch or even dent, not a mark. It is exactly 18 inches & wears around the neck collar like a choker necklace.

This necklace will be very secure around your neck. It has a twist on/off lock. It is so strong it will not just 'break'. I think you need scissors to cut this open!
