Description

The listing, Antique Bible ~ Gilt Edge & Leather Bound has ended.

This bible is in pretty good shape for the age of it. It measures 4 3/4 x 2 3/4 x 1 1/8 inches. The cover has a torn spot which I have tried to show in the pictures. All the pages are there and none seem to have any damage. The binding is loose on both sides and the last page is loose. I don't know anything about old books but I do know that this one is a treasure. It is metal rimmed all around the the clasp is perfect. If anyone out there knows anything about these books I would love to hear from you. I am starting the bidding high, so if you don't want to bid, please don't leave comments.

This is very nice but can u lower the starting bid because I really want this could u just maybe consider letting it start low and let it make its way up on credits because a lot of people don't have 20,000 credits but If u start the credits low a lot a whole lot of people will start to get interested

I do understand that a lot of people don't have this many credits, but I think this is a rare treasure and have held onto it for many years. I think the starting bid is a fair one. But I do thank you for looking at my auction and hope that you will be able to win it.

I have this same bible I bought it in an e-bay store and it is inscribed " To Lucrecia from her uncle Thomas"and continues with a passage he wrote in it "This precious Bible, points the Pilgrim to the gate which leads to Heaven. May its truths influence you to obtain that home above." And then he writes under that...My dear Niece," The marriage vow is Solumn, may you so view it. While a good providence continues you in the wedded life." And under that it is signed--Boston March 21 1861. There are small letters after the 21 (maybe st) I love this Bible, it is a major treasure. Must have been given to someone important.

What a wonderful story!! I so wish this one had been inscribed to the person with the initials on the clasp. I've never seen another one like it. Thank you so much for sharing this with me.

Thank you for the bible lesson, however, everyone is entitled to their own religious beliefs and thats the way it should be left. Thanks for bringing some conversation to my auction.

As for the date, it is shown in the 7th picture in roman numerals at the very bottom of the page. It was published in the 1852. It really is lovely. Thank you for your interest.

Yes, I also agree that it would be a travesty to do any damage to this or any other Bible. I thought BubbaDBear was joking. If not, then he is of course entitled to his opinion.

I am agreement with mrscaninch. It would be barbaric to destroy a beautiful book inspired by God. True not everyone believes in God but the day will come when everyone will know there is a God and every knee shall bow to Him. This book is holy and should be respected as the true word. Any book would suffice to hollow out the pages and make a safe..why the Holy Bible??
