never used it, but it is Avon's best selling eyeliner, if that helps any

Retractable eyeliners you have to turn to get more product out compared to an eyeliner pencil that needs sharpening. Most of the time you cannot roll the product back down but they are still called retractable. I have some of these and the product description on the Avon website says "retractable". I hope that helps. These do not sharpen with a regular pencil sharpener.
