Description

The listing, 1883 LIBERTY OR "V" NICKEL has ended.

Nice coin, 127 years old in great shape!! This is the first in the "V" nickle series with out "CENTS" on the back. People would Gold plate these back then and pass them off for $5 Gold coins. Soon the mint changed the design to add the word :"CENTS": on the back to deter this. Does have some fine scratches as pictures show. Also has a die crack error as seen in the last picture. Shipping is free.
Good luck bidding!!!

Awesome, that's got to XF except for the scratches, the winner should maybe get it expertized.

Has this coin been polished or cleaned? I don't know much about coins, but it sort of looks like it has been cleaned. I think that lowers the value significantly.

There is one listed on ebay that looks similiar (doesn't have the cents on it) and it is at .99 cents, it has a few less scratches than yours, but yours is still nice.. nice listing.

Some times the scratches make it worth a little more. Because for example a perfect looking one with nothing at all on it doesn't make a good for a sale most of the time. some people like having really clean looking coins and thats fine. But it isn't for alot of people. If it has the wear on it. It show the age of that coin. Which is awsome.
