Description

The listing, BEAUTIFUL VINTAGE CIRCLE BROOCH / RAINBOW COLORED RHINESTONES has ended.

I had a difficult time showing the true beauty of this Brooch, for some reason. It is absolutely Beautiful & of jewelers quality. It is made up of 2 prong set, intertwined, rhinestone circles of several colored rhinestones. Like a Rainbow~~~Dazzling! The setting is Gold plated and the back shows a well made, soldered frame, with obvious puddling. The roll over clasp works as intended & there is no makers mark. It measures 1 1/4" w x 1 1/8" tall. An Oval shape.

Years ago, Major Jewelry makers used independent artisans to produce pieces for them. Therefore mid-century, it is not uncommon to see many unsigned jewelry pieces, even with the well known Jewelers. A prime example is D & E Juliana. The jewelry item was indeed a quality piece, just not branded. I feel as though that is the case w/this brooch. Not branded but very well made.

I think you are dead on about the origin of this brooch. I have seen similar pieces that looked like they were crafted by a true artisan and they were unmarked. You know, I suppose, there were an entire group of jewelers who kept themselves afloat, so to speak, by doing work on costume jewelry and they deliberately left their names off so as not to "taint" their luxury pieces. They did this until they got hired by a major house or until they could afford to found their own studios and their brand names were therefore protected for their future ventures. I met a person once when we were still doing shows, that did just that and he explained his reasoning when I complained that I wish they would have put their names onto pieces. Robert who worked for Miriam Haskell was a good example of this. Until he realized he wasn't going to be a major name in jewelers circles, he worked under her name and her name only. Little did these people realize that later there pieces of costume jewelry might be worth almost as much as their designer pieces were later in the century. Most of them started in the 20s and were trained by many major jewelers or houses like Cartier, etc. Monet is a good example of this. They used their own name on pieces so they could hire and use "real" jewelers for many of their pieces. And, the famous Eisenberg is another example of how circumstances can change the direction in which you are going. He started life as a dress designer and the models kept stealing the pieces of jewelry he put onto his clothes. That's why you will occasionally see pieces out there that scream Eisenberg and aren't marked. He didn't think they were worth marking until models and movie stars starting lifting them when they were through wearing his clothing line. That's enough. I could talk for ages about these people. LMAO

Oooohh!! I'm scared. Best stay down here then. Only got that far up in The state a few years back after a trip through New England to view the turning maples! Lovely trip & we wound up in Niagra in a great B& B run by a guy who used to do costumes for Ballet Tracadero! Do you know the troupe I'm talking about? Great all male ballet dancers who work on pointe!! Tremendously talented and quite campy!! Loved them so much! He was a hoot & had pics of the troupe all over the dining room. Great trip. Couldn't wait to go back to Dallas!! Got so homesick, but it was a lot of fun!!

Have you seen the ballet I told you about? If you haven't, they're worth looking up on Utube. It's hysterical and they are quite good, too.
