Elderberry is a very cool plant to grow. It has beautiful and tasty white flowers that turn into dark purple berries at the end of Summer. Elderberries have been used in pies, wine and for their medicinal properties. This is the American Elderberry and is very similar and used in the same way as the European Elderberry ( Sambucus Nigra). These are grown naturally with no pesticides or chemical fertilizers.

Have you grown from seed before? any tips? do you have any seedlings to put up for auction?

I am just starting my own seeds this month and rooting some cuttings from the plants I have. From what I understand, elderberries readily create new bushes from fallen seed, though we do not have many because the field around our bushes is mowed. I planted some in pots but also in the ground in areas that are safe from mowing. Of course, growing any large shrub from seed will take quite some time before berries appear.
