it doesn't. it plugs into your phone or what ever you have that has downloaded music. it then will transmit to one of the specified stations that your radio must be set to. hope that answers the question?

yes or even on your home stereo? either or. pretty cool I think. it does use batteries and just put fresh ones in.

your car radio must be set to a specific station as mentioned in the description. one of 4 stations, which ever you choose and has no station currently on it . then you power on the device and press play on you MP3/iPod/phone with built in MP3 player

Yes this works. no it doesn't randomly shut off unless the batteries die. it has a power button that must be turned on or off when ever using or not in use.
