(All one piece) from the record/play box it extends to a basic springline telephone communication jack. much like you see on your phone that connects into the wall or phonebase. With this accesory it is made to contact to a phone line or phone, which is therefore connected to a recorder. You may switch the button to rec through the device to your recorder which delivers the sound of your phone call to be recorded. If you switch to play you may want to not record certain parts of the call and actually play back on the phone line what you have recorded.
