I have mine growing against a tree and a fence. It will go as high as it can climb something or as far down a fence line as you want it. I threw my seeds in the ground (I'm in zone 5) and they are coming up already. I really don't know when they will bloom first.This does reseed it self.

Plant the seeds end of summer/fall and get flowers the year after?

It is a perennial. I am not sure if it will bloom the first year, but definitely the second year. Can be sown anytime now.
