No you will still see the color with the lights on but the darker the room the cooler and brighter it looks :)

I have a wand style and another style very similar to this in both of my bathrooms. they were only the shower heads when I won them on another auction site fairly cheap. i love them. fair warning to anyone that has seizures though. good luck to everyone bidding on this. they are awesome. I like this style better than the one in my main bath lol.
