Questions & Comments
I agree zika; a beautiful coin for sure, I have a duplicate of this exact coin that I have added to my personal collection for the Cook Islands.
These coins were issued by the Food & Agriculture Organization (FAO). I got this snippet from the Internet: "On the 16th of October 1945, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations was founded in Quebec City, Canada. Their goal is to "modernize and improve agriculture, forestry and fisheries practices and ensure good nutrition for all".
In 1968, the F.A.O. started a Money and Medals program to help spread its message of the urgent need to increase food and agricultural production. They encourage governments to use their coinage to promote this important message. In excess of 18 million dollars have been shared by participating countries and used directly in the development of agriculture.
Today the F.A.O. consists of 187 member countries, more information about them can be found at their website."
I'm one of those people who collected one coin from each country; had a coin from 240 countries and colonies in the 1900's...since pared it down significantly to the "best of what you have from the one coin from every country collection", but the challenge is cool and quite fun.
Nice; and it seems like you learned a lot from your collection. I'm new to collecting 1-coin/country, and am finding it difficult to keep the ONE that I like. Some countries have multiple designs that I enjoy...so I'm just keeping ALL the ones I like...I guess it's my collection; so I can make up the rules ;-) And you're right; it's a lot of fun.
Yeah, keeping the "one" coin for each country is tough. I managed, though it was difficult to pick. Being analytical helped me. I'd come up with spreadsheets to determine the one to keep. LOL Funny but it worked!
Elizabeth the 2nd is getting old.. LOL j/k just talking about how much older she looks on this coin compared to older Canadian coins. Nice coin, great listing!!
