The listing, Vintage Curious German Cameo, Stamped! has ended.

Hello everyone! Thank you for taking a peek, if you know anything about Cameo's please comment below!

So here's the scoop. I got this little pretty out of the case of a Vintage Second Hand Shoppe. It's very intricate, well made and even stranger... STAMPED! In between the areas where the band meets the pendant is reads in very fine print "Best.German(s?)" It may say Est.German(s?) as well, what looks like a b could be a scuff. I have extensively googled and have come up with nothing. There is no stamp for whether it is gold or not. The Cameo itself is VERY, VERY intricate. I tried to do it justice with pictures but even my iphone can't capture the fine details in the woman's face and hair. The stone behind her is a very pretty coral color. and the band adjusts! I have adjusted it to fit my finger and the metal didn't bend or give in a way that would make me think it would break. The woman at the store said it was part of a collection that was donated, via the request of a deceased woman. Proceeds of the Second Hand Shoppe are donated to a local church that the woman frequented. I would love to see this go to someone who knows a little more about it, and will cherish it for a lifetime. If you have any information about what the stamp could mean please comment below!

Ermergad! This is beautiful! Old things are the best....they have so much character that "new" things seem to lack.

A ring like this is on eBay with a GIN of $49.99... I know because I collect WEST GERMAN jewelry and I'm watching it...lol! Items marked with the destitution W or E Germany are post WWII or 1949... but the destitution stopped for the most part in 1990 with the fall of the wall. I would say your ring is 1950's since the Romanticism of the Victorian age was big then! By the 1960's the rings became smaller and features gem stones, CZ's and glass. Hope this helps!

Wow! This is AMAZING! Thank you so much for all of the info. I am very new to the world of treasure hunting and this will allow me to better identify the things I find! I am going to the vintage thrift shop tomorrow and will apply this excellent knowledge :D A friend of mine found almost the incidental ring but with onyx and it was going for around 50 dollars I wonder if that's the same you found!

Wow this is amazing! I had originally opened my account to earn Christmas money for my daughter. But now i must have this!! I have always been fascinated with cameos! My full German Grandmother had a cameo I was obsessed with as a child. Perhaps this can be a sharing present between my daughter and I as she is steampunk and cameos are "in" again! Fanned :)

This is beautiful, out of my credit range at the moment but still watching and now also a fan. I am an avid cameo collector as well as a collector of other vintage/antique items. I also re-purpose broken or damaged vintage/antique items and turn them into something new. I am in agreement with Sherri Shops A Lot. It is probably marked East Germany, or a variation of East Germany. Sometimes stamps don't come out complete on jewelry. I actually have an antique or vintage ring now that I can't identify because the stamp is not quite complete and the ring has probably also been submerged underwater at some point and I think it is in Russian. I would say Sherri is probably spot on about it being from the 50's as well. The cameo itself looks like it could be glass, and I know in the same era West Germany made glass buttons. I don't think this is a hand carved shell cameo, as I started to collect those first and then also glass and costume ones. I know shell cameos very well after collecting them for about 9 years now I guess. It is hard to tell with iphone pictures, all though these are pretty close to perfect for an iphone camera. I have an iphone so I know how hard is to get good close ups and don't use it for sales because I have another camera. I could tell for sure if I saw it in person. Either way it is very nice and whoever wins it will be very pleased with it I am sure. Good luck! Love your sn as well.

I'm back again. I don't see any notes on what I share with you the other day.
The information I gave you was from my personal experience, not from something I read somewhere so there is no way I can send you a page link or anything. I was around when this 1928 Jewelry was being made, so I can tell you only what I know.
Sorry, but you probably can look up 1928 and see if they have any pictures or things like that. Did you look for them? I can go do some of that for you. I'll be back and when I have something, I'll send you a PM. Okay?

Welcome back, I sent you a response message to what you sent me. I did a lot of research and the only thing I had found was a ring with the exact same setting but a different cameo with a green backing on ebay and it was going for 65 dollars. Someone from my work claimed they had seen an onyx cameo ring with a slightly different setting from that collection on etsy and it was going for around 50. I didn't make a comment because considering whether it's authentic vintage or not for that retail value, bidding listia points isn't so bad. I have done research of the collection it may be from and have found nothing with the setting and/or stone color. If you find anything please pm me I am very interesting in possibly figuring out what it is and where/when it came from ^_^

I have seen pieces made in the early 19th century that were adjustable, but not in the same way that we have adjustables today, though. They usually were quite intricate, but the other lady with the green on is probably right on the money about the year. I was more than likely made after WWII and probably sometime before 1960, but you just never know unless you find one like it that is marked w/a makers hallmark or stamped with the factory or maker's name, so, in lieu of carbon dating, you aren't going to be able to tell unless there are clues in the metal. Does it look like t was stamped out by a machine or hand made? That could be a very good clue. Thanks, and I'm already watching this, but I think I will pin, tweet and share it on FB. Good Luck

Thank you for all the info! I can't really tell if it was machine stamped or hand stamped. As I stated it could say multiple things. I can definitely make out est.German there could be an s or y after german and a b before est. A friend of mine said that west germany is a common stamp on vintage costume jewelry but it is DEFINITELY not a W before est. I have off on Tuesday and might take it to a jeweler if I can find one that would specialize in this kind of jewelry. If I figure anything out I will definitely post :)

I love it. I have one with the exact ring setting but the cameo is green glass with the woman on the inside. I got it on here and it is gorgeous! Mine is stamped
W Germany which would indicate it was made after WWII

Thank you very much :D I try my hardest! and I was wondering the same thing. It's not a usual adjustable setting though. The whole setting seems to be made out of some kind of chain linking.
