Are there any symbols or marking of any kind like letters or numbers?

And depending on it's date it can be worth anywhere from 300 to 5000 dollars but before you get excited you should have a numismatic look at it or the people who work at coin shops!

well, from what I can see, there's markings on the front, the side that looks like a tic tac toe board. it says from right to left, 1, 8, H. second row p, blank, a. third row 7, blank, 8. there's also some letters around the edge but they're cut off and only half there.

Then I think it's from 1878 but I have another idea for you, you sign up at
www.treasurenet.com and post the pictures of what you have either in the finds section or spanish cobs section

so the other escudos I looked at online don't look anything like this one? I can't seem to locate a date marking on this anywhere. do you have any idea around what time this is from? I tried to research but failed, all I found was ebay auctions lol. thank you in advance.

fake or real, i really like it. i have two collections. one off's like these and ones that are worth money. it's the one off's like these that keep me collecting.
Sep 14th, 2013 at 9:38:36 PM PDT by

Ok, I can understand that. personally I don't collect coins, I mean I do but not like a hobby, I work in retail and see a lot of coins and bills passed through when I have money in my pocket I trade them out. this one I came across in a grassy park/playground area walking through as a shortcut I saw it sparkle in an empty drainage ditch so I picked it up. I always thought it was fake and never had it checked out. something like this people just don't carry around.

you are lucky to find them like that

Looks like a fake cob. You never find real examples in that condition and if it was cadres it is fake.
Sep 14th, 2013 at 6:29:02 PM PDT by

I've seen real cobs and escudos dating back to 1500's that look better than this one.

Even if it's a fake or counterfeit it could still be real gold.
Sep 14th, 2013 at 5:46:37 PM PDT by
Original
that's very true. I kind of think it's not real gold. but I'm going to get it checked out.

Not xure really...would have to see it....it worth bidding on for sure
Sep 14th, 2013 at 4:05:33 PM PDT by
Original
yeah, I think I'm going to take it to a numismatic and find out exactly what it is and value. this altered creations person must know something about it cause he bid on it right away and hasn't had any input on anything.

To me...it looks like an imitation of a hammered coin....BUT...nobody can tell u without seeing it in person...

I'm not lying, it does seem to have an edge around the side. but it doesn't look like it's two pieces, it looks like it might have been casted and that maybe it was just a little bit of extra material that seeped out of the cast. I guess that would be a fake right? or would it?

someone said the date on it is from 1708
Sep 12th, 2013 at 8:52:56 AM PDT by
Original
boo, they said it was fake. said it has a ring around the edge so it's casted and not solid. I've looked closely around the edge and all though it does have a ring, it doesn't look casted at all. they said it would look like two coins fused together but everything looks solid. I don't know though .

okay good luck, let me know what they think and I might bid on it too!
