BROKEN iPod Touch 3rd Generation
Power Button does not work and the screen is not responding to touch
I got this used on Listia and the original owner had replaced the screen, but admittedly did not do a very good job. As you can see from the pictures, the screen is lifting all the way around and does not require a tool to lift it because it's so loose. It is, however, a brand new screen with no cracks. Other than that, the cosmetic condition shows normal wear and tear. It does take a charge and it does power on, but I have not let it die since I got it because of the power button issue. I tried connecting it to my computer to reset it, but it won't connect because I had password protected it before the screen stopped working and I can't open it without the password being input. Maybe you know how to fix these things and can get yourself a large storage capacity iPod for a lot less than new. It will come fully charged.
The repair shop at the mall told me these are quick and easy fixes and that most likely something inside is just loose because of the home screen replacement, but couldn't fix it there because he said 3G parts are no longer being made. He did say, however, that if another 3G with a cracked screen could be obtained, then the screens could be changed out and I could make one working iPod with two non working iPods. It's also possible that the parts could be obtained from Apple at a higher cost. I do not know anything about fixing iPods and I don't want to mess with it, so here it is.
It WILL come with a charging cable, but no wall charger.

Please note this item is BROKEN and does NOT WORK

Posted. One is with the iPod turned on and charging. THe other is of the glass screen to show that it comes right off and also that it's not cracked.

Sorry, no. I spent almost 29K credits plus shipping for this and I'm hoping to recoup some of that. My broken mini went for 4K.

Sorry, correction. I did not pay for shipping for this, but I did spend almost 29K credits, so no GIN. I'm going to see how high it goes and if I only get a few credits, then so be it, but if my mini went for 4K, I'm sure I can get at least that for this one.

The reason the touch screen isn't working is because the digitizer (that glass screen you are holding) has a cable on its top right corner (from the back view) that needs to be connected to the logic board. based on the pictures and seeing that the frame which holds the digi onto the ipod is still intact, I'm guessing the cable has. been torn and you will need an entirely new digitizer for it to respond to touch.

As for the lock button, that's. a whole different simple fix.

After watching a video on replacing the digitizer, I can see that the screen replacement caused the digitizer cable to rip in half and it looks like just the glass has been taken off and not unclipped properly. I looked around on the internet and found complete digitizer replacement kits with tools and everything for as little as $16. I did not realize this would be such a cheap and easy fix, otherwise I wouldn't have listed it :( Oh well, thanks ThePirate90 for the info.

Yea, I'll defiantly be bidding on this one.

However, it isn't as easy to fix as youtube videos portray. When I started repairing iPods, I thought it was going to be the easiest thing ever. But once you actually try to get the tools under the frame and remove it without smashing the LCD, you realize it's a bit hard. I've fixed nearly 100 iPods though, so it is like clockwork to me. I know just where and how hard to pull/push to get it apart without damaging it.

Also, the one thing just about anyone will try when fixing their first few iPods, no matter how much a demo stresses not to, is using metal tools. Never ever ever try to use like a flat blade skrewdriver. I did when I was first starting to repair phone screens and I would break LCDs, wifi cables, batteries.

All in all, it looks extremely easy to fix, but if you've never done one, it's best to have a pro do it.
